My Trash Can

Over on Walter's blog he wrote a post about his $40 new toothbrush. I commented that I paid $200 for my trash can, so I didn't think $40 for a toothbrush sounded crazy.

Well, this led to a little debate as to why in the world I would purchase such a trash can. I said that I would post about it tonight, hence this post.

I used to have the old fashioned trash can in my kitchen, and really had no problem with it. But both my sister, and JRowe would regularly comment on the fact that it smelled, and was gross.

So off I went to purchase a new trash can. I walked into the Container Store and saw this gleaming, beautiful trash holder begging me to take it home. I stepped on the foot pedal and the two sides easily parted up into the air. When I released my foot, the two sides slowly and silently lowered themselves back down.

I knew it had to be mine. It keeps smells out (or in), is stylish (I think) and is so sturdy it's never knocked over.

Worth $200? I say, absolutely!!!!

What do you say?

All I can say about your billion dollar trash can is that I'm glad it makes you happy.

P.S. and I mean that sincerely.

Walter this is not the first debate about the trash can.

All I know is that it smells way better than the nasty old can, and it's much cleaner. I'm just happy you bought a new can. For the record, I'm a fan of this billion dollar trash can.

And, I'm also curious about the new toothbrush...what bells and whistles does a 129$ toothbrush have to offer?

You have a sweet can! Oh, can I say that without getting slapped?! $200 bucks may be a bit steep for me, but I'd have to see it in action. I may pay 2 hundred if its fun to open and close. I've spent more on less. I'm not very smart. *grin*

well, I have the same trash can. I'm also a big fan of the can. You know, I can easily blow $200 in a weekend and not have anything to show for it. This garbage can will last for at least five years.
However, B, you may not get as much sympathy if your Social Security goes down the toilet when your lurkers read that you spend $200 on a garbage can.

Usually sisters might buy matching outfits...but matching trash cans??

:-P

Looks cool...but I'd expect neon lights or (insert hot celebrity here) to come with it.

:-P

For the record, I bought the trash can well over a year ago. Since the S.S. debacle, I've purchased nothing!!!!!

also, all of my widow friends will attest to the fact that retail therapy is an important part of grieving. Right widow group?

Can't let this debate go by...
I can't IMAGINE spending $200 dollars on a trash can. It holds TRASH!!!!!!!!!!!!!! There are so many more interesting things to spend $200 on.

Also, it's kind of a pain to get the trash bag in... But the lid does raise up nicely when you step on it...

Still not $200!!!!!!!!!!

Sorry, I have strong opinions. :o)

I agree with mel.

For $200 it should do A LOT more than just hold trash! And 'kind of a pain to change the trash bag'?? Seems the cost should equal 'ease of use'. Hmm... :-P

Me again. I have to defend our spending friend. She hasn't gone shopping at all (except the grocery store) since the whole S.S. thing blew up.

Good thing the trash can will last 5 years!

in case anyone now wants to buy this can, it's made by simplehuman, and I just noticed it comes with a 10 year warranty.

I think this debate is way out of my league. I use a rubbermaid clothes hamper for a kitchen trash can. :D

I don't think your floor is photographing too well. It looks better in person.
Maybe your next blog entry (after the one about the hot date) should be about your new dishwasher!!

Okay, I have to admit. I can't get into a toothbrush anymore than I can get into a trashcan.

Don't get me wrong, my teeth are important. I'd like to keep them around as long as possible, preferably white. But my good old manual brush seems to do pretty well. (If those of you who know me in person disagree, please let me know privately. :o)

Love all of the comments. The toothbrush sounds great to me, but I am currently not spending money! The dishwasher was also purchased before the SS crap. (you can sort of see it in the pic)

I admit, I was spending a bit out of control for a bit. But all on really great home improvement items. I don't regret any of my purchases, but do wish there was more money lying around than there is.

Tomorrow night I will post all about the (hopefully) hot date.

Cheers!

After all the "stuff" you've bought since I've known you, this is just a "drop in the bucket". It's great! Enjoy it...
