A Poll For My Readers
(please answer questions, it will really help me)

1. Have you ever been to a "Super Supper" type establishment? (where you assemble dinners for 2 weeks, and take home to freeze)

2. If yes, what was the name of it, did you like it, and would you go back? (please share what you liked or didn't like about it)

3. If no, would you have any interest in going to one if it was close to you?

4. If you have children, would you be interested in signing them up for cooking classes?

5. Would you rather host a birthday party at your home, or at a store of some type?

6. Would a cake decorating birthday party appeal to you? (edited to clarify) Each child would decorate his/her own individual cake using techniques taught during party. They would then bring their cake home in nice box as party favor. They would also decorate their own apron that they would take home. Traditional birthday cake would be served.

7. Is there an activity you wish you could be doing regularly with or without kids, that you can't do because there isn't a market for it?

Thanks for your time.

1. Have you ever been to a "Super Supper" type establishment? (where you assemble dinners for 2 weeks, and take home to freeze)
I've never been to or even heard of this.

2. If yes, what was the name of it, did you like it, and would you go back? (please share what you liked or didn't like about it)
N/A

3. If no, would you have any interest in going to one if it was close to you?
Possibly. It would have to be fairly close. I'm into all natural foods, so that would be a consideration. And, none of us are fans of casserole type meals. (the meals well meaning friends and neighbors brought over when Tom was sick did not go over well.) Since my household will be down to 2 (from 5 just 20 months ago), I would need small or individual meal containers.

4. If you have children, would you be interested in signing them up for cooking classes?
My children are all teenagers, so this is not likely.

5. Would you rather host a birthday party at your home, or at a store of some type?
When my kids were young, I preferred at home parties. But, those days are gone.

6. Would a cake decorating birthday party appeal to you?
N/A

7. Is there an activity you wish you could be doing regularly with or without kids, that you can't do because there isn't a market for it?
Not sure how to answer this one. Activities that I'd like to do are not activities I would associate with a 'market' or business. I'm into fitness and exercise regularly, but don't see myself in the fitness 'business.' However, it WAS more difficult to work in my fitness routine when my children were younger, a parent/child exercise class or family fitness center business would have appealed to me then.
As a young widow with teenagers, who is not currently working outside of the home (but I'm looking), I guess I'd appreciate any activity that allows interaction with adults!

Good luck with this venture, b. Sounds interesting. I look forward to hearing more!

1. Have you ever been to a "Super Supper" type establishment? (where you assemble dinners for 2 weeks, and take home to freeze) Nope. The only one I knew of up until recently was 20 miles from home...too far. I recently found one 5 miles from home.

2. If yes, what was the name of it, did you like it, and would you go back? (please share what you liked or didn't like about it) N/A

3. If no, would you have any interest in going to one if it was close to you? Yes, but I'd likely only go during the fall when I'm really busy, because otherwise I can't justify the expense. I'm also concerned about having to buy way too much food...we're a small family, and it makes me crazy to have too much food in the freezer/frig.

4. If you have children, would you be interested in signing them up for cooking classes? Definitely. Jack loves to cook!

5. Would you rather host a birthday party at your home, or at a store of some type? At a store, as long as it's not too expensive. (I don't like to spend more than $150 total for a birthday party.)

6. Would a cake decorating birthday party appeal to you? Not so much.

7. Is there an activity you wish you could be doing regularly with or without kids, that you can't do because there isn't a market for it? Don't really understand this question...I do need to make more time for my quilting though, and would like it if I could turn it into a more social activity.

FYI, I had a customer last summer who had recently started Super Suppers. She contacted me about possibly signing up with my business...she got lots of compliments in the store about her SL stuff, and she thought it might be a nice complement (wow, did I just really use both of those in the same sentence??). But she was already working 12 hour days at the store (mainly food prep and then evening "classes") and decided she was too busy.

#3 cont. Also, I'd be more likely to go if I could take Jack with me. The one I checked out a year ago (Super Suppers) allowed you to bring your kid on Saturdays once a month, but they were always scheduled when I couldn't go and I finally stopped checking the website.

3. No. I'm a cook from scratch hippy girl.

4. My 13 year old's better in the kitchen than some adults I know & my 11 year old is doing alright too. Cleaning up lessons could be helpful though...

5. Themed home birthday extravaganzas are my specialty!

6. Ooooh yeah. Have actually done that one - several times by request. Gingerbread houses wrapped in cellophane once finished look spectacular and are lots and lots of sticky fun.

7. Not right now. I'll have to think about this.

I hope this helps B, :)

1. No, but I have many friends who have.

2. NA

3. Possibly, my family isn't big on casseroles, so I would have to look at the menus. We are also trying to eat super healthy these days, so something that figured WW points or something would be great!!

4. I would love to and think my kids would love it, they all love to help me in the kitchen. I love Kelly's idea of having Mommy and Me classes too.

5. I love to host away from home, but we do both.

6. I think a cupcake decorating party would be fun.

7. Does drinking wine count? ;-)That would be without kids, not with! LOL

5. I think a mix is good. Now while the kids are little, here. That tween age? Away.

7. I think a coffee shop geared toward having kids in tow would be great. A basket of cool toys w/ a small play area shared by a couple of booths would be great.

3. I dont know what type of place is this, but as long as you cook it from scratch, sure, its perfect for when you dont have time to cook, especially when you have children
4. Definately
5. Depending on the house/flat. Not in the flat I live now, too little space, but definately in a house, where there is a garden (does it make sense?)
6. No, cake is something traditional you bring in with the lights switched off, so it wouldnt work for me.
7.Making stuffed toys you know, personalised ones, unique. Like a starfish with blue eyes on it, or something, making other stuff like this. Not sure if there is a market for it over there, but there isnt one here.

I know it will be lots of fun for children to do that, I know I would have loved it, even if I am grown up. And I love it when children leave a birthday party with something to take home:)

4. No. My older guy likes learning from me.
5. At home! (Which reminds me I need to post pics of our Dinosaur party from last weekend)
6. No.
7. Sleeping would be nice; so would reading the newspaper without being interrupted. Aside from that? Nothing comes to mind.

Hmm ... I don't think my input will help on this. I'm demographically challenged, so I won't have the kinds of answers many others my age might. I don't think there's an untapped market that would work for me, as I have enough to keep up with as it is. Restaurants, bars, coffee shops, and bookstores fill up most of my needs. But then, I've never been to a pottery painting place, for instance, but there's one at the end of my street that somehow stays in business. Somebody's going!

I love the idea of individual cakes to decorate - especially with young kids who get to have a cake of their own on someone else's birthday - a nice treat! The little box is a great bakery looking touch.

I've heard of those dinner prep places and I think it's a great idea but I'm not sure how well that has caught on around here. I would never use one because I like to cook - in my own kitchen!
Cooking classes for kids is another terrific idea - I definitely would have given them to N. I believe in teaching kids their way around the kitchen at a young age - and also teaching cleaning basics.

My FAVORITE new idea for children is the gym. They have those "mommy & me" gyms where you work out simultaneously with your children. They are off with a kiddie trainer while you get workout time.
I like the way you're thinking - you are an entrenpreneur in the making...

oh... and I always preferred parties out of the house but N usually wanted them at home. Often when we did have them at home, they were very structured with an activity or I brought in entertainment (karaoke machine! everyone dressed as their favorite rock star and we videoed them singing!).

1. Nope

3. Yes, I have thought about it before b/c there is one about 10 miles from me.

4. Yes, I sure would b/c I don't enjoy the kitchen that much and don't want them to grow up thinking that cooking is a chore like I do.

5. Anywhere but my house!

6. I think my 6 year old daughter would LOVE a cake decorating party. I can't imagine my 3 year old son doing anything but throwing frosting around.

7. I would love to be part of a walking club but haven't found one around me. I think it would be fun.

1. Have you ever been to a "Super Supper" type establishment? (where you assemble dinners for 2 weeks, and take home to freeze) YES

2. If yes, what was the name of it, did you like it, and would you go back? (please share what you liked or didn't like about it) IT WAS A LOCAL PLACE, I WOULD PROBABLY GO BACK. I MOSTLY ENJOYED GOING WITH FRIENDS AND ENJOYING WINE AND COMPANY WHILE ASSEMBLING MEALS.

3. If no, would you have any interest in going to one if it was close to you?

4. If you have children, would you be interested in signing them up for cooking classes? WHEN THEY ARE OLD ENOUGH, I THINK THAT WOULD BE FUN.

5. Would you rather host a birthday party at your home, or at a store of some type? EITHER, DEPENDS ON COST. IT'S NICE HAVING PARTIES ELSEWHERE SO YOU DON'T HAVE TO WORRY ABOUT CLEANING UP!

6. Would a cake decorating birthday party appeal to you? (edited to clarify) Each child would decorate his/her own individual cake using techniques taught during party. SOUNDS OKAY.

7. Is there an activity you wish you could be doing regularly with or without kids, that you can't do because there isn't a market for it? I LIKE YOUR THERAPIST IDEA OF WORKING OUT WITH THE KIDS...CAN'T THINK OF ANYTHING ELSE...THERE'S NOT MUCH OF A MARKET HERE..NOT SURE, WE JUST MOVED HERE...
