Conversation With Jacob

J: Mommy, I have a friend that I can see, but no one else can.

b: Oh? You have an imaginary friend?

J: Yes, an imaginary friend.

b: What does your friend look like?

J: She has a beard and wears earrings.

b: Interesting!

Yes, my son has a cross gendered imaginary friend. How funny is that?

Ask Jacob if his friend went to Williams College. If she did I totally know her. She's cool, but she can't hold her imaginary liquor.

Owen, I think the girl you are thinking about works here at the local Dunkin Donuts. Funny somebody like that would choose food service as a job. Anyways, Betsy, you are a good mom to laugh. Manny had 3 imaginary friends for the longest time - Boco, Leaky and Ice Cream Headache. We had to pack those three up all the time. Manny always insisted they come along! One day, I was rushing to get out the door, and Manny had to find his friends, so I screamed at him, "They are pretend! They don't exsist! They are imaginary friends!!!" His eyes welled up in that sad, sad way and said, "I know that Mommy." I immediately started a therapy savings acct. for him!
I heard that kids with imaginary friends have higher IQ's. Either that is true and our boys are brilliant, or it is just something someone make up to make us mom's feel better about our strangely funny kids!
love, G
ps. I still read your blog everyday like a soap opera, but don't always have time to leave a comment. I guess that sort of makes me a "lurker" - is that an official term? I hate it. Sounds creepy.

Gina,

I think a lurker is one who never comments so I have no way of knowing they are reading. I'm glad you still are. I'm bummed we never made it to Maine this summer. I really would love to see you....
