You Guys Are So Smart

So Jacob is NOT having an MRI
He IS having a sleep deprived EEG
Just like you said he should have
You are smart!

Now I have to figure out how to deprive him
of half his normal night's sleep
and keep him awake until his 12:30 appt

We had to keep Sydney awake in a hotel room so when read books, sang songs and played games. It was not fun but we did it and it was worth it in the end.

Good Luck!

I will try to remember more tips and I will let you know.

Thanks,
Amanda

We went out for a late dinner, and then went to Target, and let him pick out a new toy. We also had some new dvds to watch. We played/sang/etc. My parents came to help us, so we had 4 adults to keep one 2 yo happy and awake. It honestly wasn't as hard as I had expected going into the night. Best of luck to you.

Good luck...when is he having the test done?

Little J would be happy to come over and keep him up half the night! Seriously, good luck with the test. I hope it finds that all is normal.

Would it be bad to give him some Red Bull?

jk I think you've gotten some good suggestions! Best of luck to you and I hope you get some proactive answers.

I personally wouldn't advise Red Bull -- the stimulation (caffience) might interfere with his regular brain activity. Check with your neurologist. I don't think they are recommended for kids anyway.

A lot of good suggestions already given. Let me add a few more.

1. b -- absolutely imperative that you get some sleep in the evening so you are up to the task of keeping Joshua awake. (sheesh!! bad enough you have to keep him awake but why increase the misery by scheduling the test at noon?? Wouldn't 9 AM be easier??)

2. Keep a cold wet face cloth handy for when he gets droopy. Sing & wipe - sing & wipe - sing & wipe.

3. Strolls outside will help too -- maybe some backyard play -- can you buy some "sparklers"? They usually are great stimulators. Also blow some bubbles and have him chase them.

4. Does he get active with chocolate &/or sugery drinks? If so, load 'em on.

5. Explain what is going to happen to him in language he understands. i.e He will be asked to wear a funny bathing cap. There will be "toothpaste" put in his hair & they will stick wires to that but they WILL NOT pierce his skin. There will be VERY bright and VERY fast flashing lights at times. He will be asked to close his eyes at times --- assure him you will be right there throughout.

6.The test takes about 20-30 minutes -- explain to him it is the same amount of time as his favorite cartoon show.

All the best.
