Jacob

How can this little guy possibly have something wrong with him?
His EEG came back abnormal
He very well may have epilepsy
We are meeting with a neurologist at Children's Hospital
to find out more
Please keep him in your thoughts

Oh hon - that's so NOT what I thought they would find. I will keep hoping that the specialist gives you good news.

He is definitely in my thoughts (hasn't left all night) and in my prayers.

Keep breathing, one breath at a time until that appointment.

Was praying for different news but epilepsy can be very well controlled and may never cause him any problems or limitations.

My youngest had a grand mal (much different than how you described Jacob's) in October of 2004. She was put on meds for a year and .. nothing since! Even though she's older, we make sure she is constantly monitored while bathing.

One of the reasons I "twigged" so early on about Jacob is not just the fact that I work in ER. I had some very similiar episodes as a child (early teens).. my EEG showed a "mild generalized abnormality" and I took Dilantin for a few years. That was 30 years ago -- hubby says I twitch alot when dreaming but otherwise NOTHING!

Take heart! Keep us posted & I will keep you in my prayers.

B-

My daughter had her first seizure when she was 4. They are absent seizures which means that she just goes into a daze but can't hold herself up. She has been taking the medicine "Keppra" for almost 6 years now and the only episode we have had is when we were trying to let her come off the medicine. Her body just wasn't ready for that yet. We keep our fingers crossed that she will be able to come off the medicine soon.

I tell you all this to let you know that it is scary but the doctors can control it. Keep your chin up and I hope things get better.

Thinking of you!!!

B, when is the meeting with the neurologist?

And, FYI, I sent your blog link to my mom...she asks about you on occasion. She read through a lot of it and said you're a great writer...but those of us who've been reading already know that.

You have all been in my thoughts and prayers. Update us when you can.

Thanks to all of you. The neurolgist is away for the long weekend, as is his receptionist. They will reopen on Tuesday and an appt. will be set up then. I'll keep you posted.
